MTC: In The Beginning – Recap and Reflection
hursday night’s MTC: In The Beginning drew a large crowd to the FLCS Gymnasium in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The event’s organizer, Senior Pastor Rian Gittman delivered an entertaining night of fights.
Right off the bat, the MMA cage appeared smaller than the professional regulation sized cage. I asked one of the FSBC officials and he remarked, ‘less space for a fighter to run away.’ The cage size was fully approved by the Florida State Boxing Commission.
Pastor Chet Lowe of Calvary Chapel Ft Lauderdale, provided an excellent facility with one of the most organized, smoothly run debut Mixed Martial Arts event, that I have ever been to. The concession stand was fully staffed providing fast service and the concession prices for drinks and food were very reasonable. The seating layout around the cage was excellent. From the bleachers to the VIP section – there was not a bad seat in the house.
There was a nice variety of finishes with only two bouts going to decision. Four matches ended in submission and two matches ended in TKO.
Two fighters Kevin Syler and Aaron Rajman were victorious in their professional debut. Syler finished his opponent Cleveland Mclean with a rear naked choke in the second round. Rajman took a beating from Anthony Retic as they battled for three rounds. When it seemed that Rajman was close to being defeated, he found the will to stay engaged taking the fight to a judge’s decision.
In the evening’s main event, Marcos da Matta made quick work of opponent Roy Bradshaw, taking him to the ground and placing him in an omoplata/armbar combination with Bradshaw finally tapping at 3:23 of the first round.
